Saarstahl Ascoval, a company of the Saarstahl Group based in Saint-Saulve (France), has agreed to a long-term partnership with Mannesmann Precision Tubes (Mülheim an der Ruhr, Germany) to supply input materials for steel tube applications in the automotive and industrial sectors. The cooperation also includes close collaboration across the entire supply chain as well as development of custom logistics solutions to ensure efficient supply to end customers.
“We look forward to many years of partnership with Mannesmann Precision Tubes,” said Daniël Nicolaas van der Hout, Chief Sales Officer at Saarstahl. “This cooperation demonstrates that we have successfully positioned ourselves in the market as a pioneer in CO2-reduced steel.” Dr Dennis Stindt, President of Saarstahl Ascoval, highlighted the importance of the contract for the French location of the company and says he is looking to the future with optimism: “Saarstahl Ascoval has established itself in recent years throughout Europe as a manufacturer of CO2-reduced rail steel. But our steel is also in demand in other sectors, and supply contracts like this one with Mannesmann Precision Tubes allow us to secure a strong position across multiple industries. At the same time, these agreements also provide the necessary planning certainty for us to sustainably continue development of our plant.”
The Saarstahl Group has aimed investments in recent years at modernising and expanding the infrastructure of its electric steel plant and is therefore already able to produce low-carbon steel today. Steel produced by Saarstahl Ascoval is manufactured in an electric arc furnace using steel scrap. This reduces the carbon footprint by up to 70 percent, making it considerably more climate-friendly than steel produced with the traditional blast furnace-converter route.

In December 2023, the EU Commission approved the funding of the joint decarbonisation project Power4Steel by Dillinger, Saarstahl and the mutual subsidiary ROGESA Roheisen- und Rohstoffgesellschaft Saar mbH in the amount of 2.6 billion euros from the federal and state governments.

Saarstahl Ascoval, une entreprise du groupe Saarstahl dont le siège est à Saint-Saulve, dans le Nord de la France, vient de signer un partenariat durable avec l’entreprise Mannesmann Precision Tubes, située à Mülheim an der Ruhr, en Allemagne, portant sur la fourniture de produits semi-finis destinés à la fabrication de tubes en acier pour des applications dans les secteurs de l’automobile et de l’industrie. Le partenariat prévoit également une coopération étroite des deux entreprises tout au long de la chaîne d’approvisionnement ainsi que la conception de solutions logistiques sur mesure pour maximiser l’efficacité des livraisons aux clients finaux.
« Nous sommes heureux d’avoir conclu un partenariat durable avec Mannesmann Precision Tubes », se réjouit Daniël Nicolaas van der Hout, Responsable de la Direction commerciale de Saarstahl. « Cette coopération démontre que nous avons réussi à nous positionner sur le marché comme un précurseur dans le domaine de l’acier décarboné. » Dr. Dennis Stindt, Président de Saarstahl Ascoval, souligne l’importance du contrat pour le site français et envisage l’avenir avec optimisme : « Au cours des dernières années, Saarstahl Ascoval est parvenue à se forger une solide réputation de producteur d’acier décarboné pour la fabrication de rails à l’échelle européenne. L’acier que nous produisons connaît également une certaine demande dans d’autres domaines. Les contrats de fourniture signés avec Mannesmann Precision Tubes nous permettent de nous positionner comme un interlocuteur fiable auprès de nombreux secteurs d’activité. Ils nous offrent de surcroît la sécurité nécessaire pour planifier l’évolution de notre usine et garantir sa pérennité. »
Au cours des années passées, le groupe Saarstahl a investi de manière ciblée dans la modernisation et l’extension de l’infrastructure de son aciérie électrique, ce qui lui permet de produire d’ores et déjà de l’acier décarboné. L’acier produit par Saarstahl Ascoval est fabriqué dans un four à arc électrique (FAE), notamment à partir de ferraille d’acier. Avec une empreinte carbone réduite jusqu’à 70 %, l’acier issu de ce processus de production a un impact sur le climat nettement inférieur à celui d’un acier fabriqué selon la filière classique en haut fourneau avec convertisseur.
